Aims and Benefits

The Mechanical Maintenance Skills Part 1 course provides hands-on practical experience in order to improve delegates’ mechanical skills, enabling them to successfully multi-skill in a variety of specialist areas involving pulleys/belts, sprockets/chains, bearings and pumps. The theory is followed by a demonstration of the various tasks on a rig. On completion of the course, the candidates will be able to carry out high-frequency, low-risk mechanical tasks.

Content

Delegates will acquire the following basic knowledge and understanding in order for them to perform the practical tasks included in the programme:

• The importance of Health and Safety
• Safe Systems of Work
• Plant Isolation Procedures – Lockout, and Out of Service Tags

Mechanical Maintenance Skills Part 2

Aims and Benefits

The Mechanical Maintenance Skills Part 2 course enables delegates to build on skills gained in Part 1 and feel confident to build upon their ability to diagnose and fix routine mechanical faults. This will enable the participants to carry out specific mechanical tasks back in the workplace with some initial ‘on-job’ support. The theory is followed by a demonstration of the task on a rig. Delegates will understand the reasons why they are carrying out adjustment or lubrication. This will enable them to be more competent at completing the tasks. On completion of the course, the candidates will be able to carry out high-frequency, low-risk mechanical tasks.

Content

Delegates will acquire the following basic knowledge and understanding in order for them to perform the practical tasks included in the programme:

• Understanding the importance of Health and Safety relevant to the safe conduct of mechanical tasks
• Types of power transmission
– Gear and gearbox characteristics
– Angular joints and fluid couplings
– Clutches and brakes
• Uses of Seals
– Static and dynamic type materials and uses
– Methods of installation
• Lubrication
– Application and selection of grades

Assessment

Candidates will then practice the task before having a one to one, practical assessment. Underpinning knowledge is assessed by a written paper.

Certification

Successful completion of the practical and written assessments results in the award of a City & Guilds Accreditation Certificate in Mechanical Maintenance Skills
